Funäsdalen (South Sami: Bienjedaelie) is located in Härjedalen near the Norwegian border and has a long history. Today it is best known as an award-winning ski resort, but it is also the center of South Sami culture. With a long and solid culture of welcoming visitors, Hotell Funäsdalen is one of the more classic hotels in the Swedish mountains, dating back to 1947.

Funäsdalen offers everything from fast food to luxury food. It has a long tradition of offering locally produced food. Even the beer is locally produced from the Härjebrygg brewery.

The summit lodge

It is a must to make a visit here when you are in Funäsfjällen. We offer an outstanding view of Funäsdalen and the surrounding mountains. From here you can see all the way to Sylarna in the north and Sonfjället in the south. Lunch, coffee and dinner are served here.

Café Kåvan

Café Kåvan, right next to the chairlift, offers a variety of dishes, lunch and coffee during the winter season. There is also an outdoor barbecue when the weather is good. You can buy or collect your pre-booked ski pass at Kåvan's Guest Center, which is adjacent to Café Kåvan.

In Funäsdalen you will also find Härjedalens Fjällmuseum. A museum for the whole family where outstanding collections are displayed in beautiful and fun exhibitions. A museum about mountain farmers, Sami and mill workers. The children climb through the museum's secret passage and the world of the little people up to "Säterstugan", where playful work awaits! There is a lake where there are always cows to milk. The museum also has a shop and the charming Café Gästis.

Visit the musk oxen

Come face to face with an ancient animal! Visit the unique musk ox enclosure outside Tännäs, about 2 miles east of Funäsdalen. Here, musk oxen live in their natural environment. Advance booking is required for the guided tours.

Elliseum Visual Arts

The Elliseum is and was the art studio of Gunilla and Bengt Ellis. It also serves as a gallery and museum for their respective works, where Gunilla talks about her husband's painting and her own textile art.

Bengt Ellis painted mainly watercolors and oil paintings, inspired by the Härjedal nature and people he met during his stays abroad and the many trips he made with his family. Gunilla weaves ornaments and burial blankets in Smålandsväv and sews clothes in small editions of her own fabric. She has also designed wool blankets in Jaquard fabric, with motifs from animals and nature in Västra Härjedalen.

Funäsdalen is a genuine village with a wide range of shops. Here you will find well-stocked grocery and delicatessen stores, nice clothing and interior design shops, several sports shops, craft shops, a liquor store and a pharmacy.

The mining town of Røros

Only 7 miles from Funäsdalen is the town of Røros, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The entire town center with its wooden houses is protected. While the history is prominent, this is a living city that is constantly evolving. The city is famous for its high proportion of artists and craftsmen.
